All Levels Introducing and Working with Extensive Reading in a More Engaging Way more
In many non-English-speaking countries, particularly in Asia, where exam-driven learning dominates, both teachers and students encounter difficulties in implementing Extensive Reading (ER) inside and outside the classroom. Robb (2018) highlighted key obstacles, such as selecting appropriate materials that match students’ proficiency levels and interests, as well as monitoring their reading progress. This workshop presents a student-centered approach to ER, incorporating interactive activities designed to engage learners across varying proficiency levels while exposing them to diverse content. Participants will gain hands-on experience in strategies to address students’ low motivation, explore freely available English reading resources online, and manage teachers’ workload effectively. By the end of the session, attendees will leave with practical techniques to design innovative and inclusive ER programs. The workshop aims to foster meaningful engagement, strengthen learner connections, and enhance diverse reading abilities. It is particularly suited for novice teachers seeking effective ways to integrate ER into their classrooms.
