I wrote my first graded reader in 1994 and have recently published my 29th. In addition to readers I have written various coursebooks either on my own or with my good friend Jon Wright. I teach at a small private university in north eastern Japan. I’ve been interested in extensive reading for several years now. I’m especially interested in transfer of skills from reading to writing and speaking. Also, Recently I have been experimenting with using cooperative board games to help develop my students interactive speaking skills.

Iris Su holds a BA English, MA TEFL and MA Education Management & Policy. She has 20 years of ELT experience as a teacher, trainer, curriculum writer and public speaker. She is also Cambridge CELTA and YL Extension qualified. She previously worked at British Council Myanmar, Stamford International University Thailand and Oxford University Press. She is currently working at the British Council and Rajamangala University Thailand. Iris is currently focusing on research topics on Gender and Education studies in Thai-Myanmar borders.

Hong Thuy Tham is a lecturer in the Faculty of Japanese Studies at Phenikaa University in Hanoi, Vietnam. Her research interests include Extensive Reading (ER) and Content-Based Instruction (CBI), including CBI (Content based instruction) and CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning), PBL (Project Based Learning) within the context of Japanese language education. She has implemented ER-based approaches in Japanese language courses at several universities in Hanoi and has published research on the integration and effectiveness of Extensive Reading.

Paul is the head of the Department of Basic Medical English at Nara Medical University, where all of his first-year medical students and nursing students are given the opportunity to discover the joys of extensive reading as part of their English courses. Paul has also written a series of graded readers that incorporates his love of science-fiction, academic vocabulary, and general weirdness (and which was the subject of his recently-completed PhD research).

I come from Tauranga, New Zealand, and work as an EFL teacher in a private middle school in Beijing. I hold a Master's in Applied Linguistics from Victoria University of Wellington. My main academic interests are extensive reading and task-based language teaching.
